SAFETY TIPS FOR CONTACT LENS WEARERS

  • Before ordering lenses online, by phone or by e-mail visit your eye doctor for a complete check-up and ask him to provide you a prescription that is less than 12 months old.
  • Order your contact lenses from a supplier you are familiar with or you have ordered lenses from in the past and consider it reliable.
  • Never exchange lenses with another person.
  • Never wear the lenses longer than prescribed. Wearing them more than it was prescribed may harem your eye and you can experience some serious eye problems.
  • If you feel your eyes becoming red or irritated immediately remove the lenses. This can happen due to a number of reasons. Maybe you did not insert the lenses properly or the lenses are not suitable for your eye. Occasionally, redness may be a sign that you cannot wear contact lenses. In this case, you may want to consider lasik surgery in Michigan, which can be an alternative.
  • Do not change the brand of the contact lenses you wear before asking your doctor’s opinion about it. Please be aware that there are differences in the water content and shape between different brands.
  • Carefully check the lenses after you have received and make sure they have the:

    - same brand
    - lens name
    - diameter
    - power- shere
    - cylinder, if any
    - axis, if any
    - base curve

  • Never sleep in contact lenses unless your practitioner approves it.
  • Never use saliva or homemade solutions to clean your lenses.
  • Protect your lenses from lotions and creams. Please note that the contact lenses should be introduced before applying make-up and removed after make-up has been removed.

  • How to clean your contact lenses

Whether you are wearing Daily Wear or Extended Wear contact lenses it is important for you to be aware of the fact that all contact lenses necessitate cleaning, disinfecting, and rinsing each day. If you have removed your contact lens only for five minutes you should never reinsert it without cleaning and disinfecting. When you order your lenses online you will receive a cleaning solution and instructions how the lenses should be cleaned. Here are some useful instructions we thought that are going to be useful for you to understand how contacts should be cleaned:

  • Wash and rinse your hand before you start cleaning your contact lenses. It is recommended to use non-perfumed hand soap as soaps may also contain chemicals.
  • Remove only one of your contacts (left or right) and place it in your palm.
  • Add 2 to 4 drops of cleaning solution to the surface of the lens. Do not change a brand of solution without asking your doctor’s opinion about it.
  • Use your index finger and gently rub the solution into the lens approximately 30 minutes.
  • Rinse lens with multipurpose cleaning solution in the case of soft lenses and with fresh tap water in the case of hard lenses. Place the lens in the lens case and fill the case with cleaning solution (soft lenses) or hard contact lens conditioning solution (hard lenses). Lens cases should be emptied, rinsed, and sterilized each day, and then left open to air dry.
  • Repeat this procedure with the other lens too.

  • How to insert contact lenses

Contact lenses can cause serious eye damage if they are not inserted properly. Here you can find the steps that are to be followed when introducing contact lenses:

  • Always wash and rinse your hand before you take the contact lenses in your hands. It is advised to use non-perfumed hand soap. Do not use your nails when handling the lenses as they may scratch the contacts.
  • Try to avoid inserting lenses near a sink.
  • Always insert your contact in the same order and this way you will eliminate mix-ups.
  • Pour the lens and solution in which it is packaged into your palm and inspect the lenses for particles or tears.
  • Place the lens with the cup side down on your forefinger. If you have placed the lenses properly on your finger the edges will bow out slightly. If by any chance the lens in inside out overturn it before inserting it into your eye.
  • Hold your upper eye or your eyelash to avoid blinking.
  • Pull your bottom eyelid down using your middle finger.
  • Look up at the ceiling so that you can softly introduce it in the center of your eyes.
  • After introducing it close your eyes for a moment. If you feel like something irritates you it means that the lenses were not introduced suitably and you will have to remove them and start all over again.

If by any chance you cannot introduce your lenses it is advisable for you to visit your eye doctor who will show you how to introduce the lenses for the first time.
