Many people who have used lenses which are traditional and have shifted to use contact lenses will say that contact lenses offer more comfort. There are also a wide range of contact lenses to choose from, too many in fact that at times it might be a difficult task to choose which one is appropriate. Is it because that the traditional lenses are from the yesteryears and contact lenses are the new and modern hip thing which is why more people prefer it? Let's find out.

Contact lenses are more fragile and can be easily damaged than the glass lenses which is why they need more care. Constant cleaning and disinfection is required daily so that the eyes will not be irritated which causes infection.

One benefit of wearing contact lenses is that one could wear another pair of sunglasses over them which obviously not possible with normal glasses. The use of contact lenses is also advantageous to those who are active in sports because there is less chance of it being damage while in use during physical activities.

There is a wide variety of contact lenses to choose from. There are the hard ones and the soft contact lenses. The hard contact lenses are usually worn frequently which makes one get accustomed to it but it cannot be worn for long periods of time because its thickness does not allow the flow of oxygen to reach one's eyes. If you have hard lenses, try to consult an optometrist to ask how you should use them.

Soft lenses are a bit different and allow everyday use. Some even wear it for several days without removal. There are different types of soft lenses and it is ideal that you should seek the advice of an optometrist to tell which one is suitable for you.

There is also the type of contact lenses which are disposable which is ideal for those who just don't have the time to properly care for them. Some of these can be worn once or maybe a few days and then could be discarded after use.

The advent of modern technology has made it possible for contact lenses to be worn by those who suffer from astigmatism. There are even contact lenses which can be used for those who require bifocal prescription. Actually it is now possible for almost anyone with any type of traditional glass lenses to fully convert to using contact lenses due the development of how contact lenses are made.

It might be a good move to switch from using traditional glasses to the more convenient contact lenses. Proper knowledge of its use and care is important and it is also vital to consult with an optometrist to give you the best advice as to what type of contact lens is appropriate for you.
